

Born in Iredell County on July 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Roy Monroe Loyd and Pernie Lee Fox Loyd.
He worked as a Dairy Farmer throughout his life on his family farm, continuing the tradition as his father and grandfather before him.
Mr. Loyd served his country as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was wounded in combat and awarded The Purple Heart and was a member of The Military Order of The Purple Heart. He also was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, Two Bronze Service Stars, along with the United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Medal.
He honored and respected all veterans and served as commander for several years in the local DAV Chapter, Harold Littlefield Chapter 68.
Mr. Loyd was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as Bishop to the Statesville Ward for 7 years and as Patriarch for the Hickory Stake for 25 years.
He loved his family, church, and country, gardening and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He also loved Bluegrass music and playing his guitar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Kathleen Lowe and Bernice Bostain and one brother, Herman Loyd.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Agnes Morrison Loyd; children, Darlene Daino of Statesville, Teresa (Gary) Andrews of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Marty (Lu Anne) Loyd , Martha (Matt) Scott and Charlie (Heidi) Loyd, all of Statesville; thirteen grandchildren, Albert (Kayte), Rachel (Wendell, Emily, Leah (Matthew), Marianne, Brent (Casey), Derrick, Matt (Kristin), Autumn, Gavin, Jocelyn, Callie and Hudson.
Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
Services honoring Mr. Loyd will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with burial to follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
