Ramie Marie Lawrence Tutterrow

She was born in Cycle, NC to Robert Garfield Lawrence and Dorothy Templeton Lawrence on March 15th 1928. Ramie graduated from Union Grove High School Class of 1947 and in 1950 married her beloved husband of 60 years, Wilburn Eugene Tutterrow, her high school sweetheart who predeceased her in 2010. Ramie worked in the textile industry in Lexington, NC before joining with her husband Gene in a lifelong career as a Federal Government Civil Servant where she served in a number of positions of increasing responsibilities that together took their family to Mobile, AL, Charlotte, NC, and Memphis, TN, before moving to Northern VA.

She retired with over 20 years of government service in 1986 from her final position with the Federal Aviation Administration while living in Springfield, VA. Ramie, a strong and faithful Christian woman, remained very active in retirement as she volunteered with her husband for Meals on Wheels, sang in the church choir, assisted in the church office, and was an active member of First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach.

She was predeceased by three siblings Cleo Wood Brown, R.G. Lawrence, Rachel Myers and is survived by her sister Margie Baker of Union Grove, NC, son Dale Tutterrow and daughter-in-law Julie of Cornelius NC, her daughter Karen Tutterrow McCarthy and Son-in-law Ed of Pittsford, NY. Ramie, lovingly called “Mama Tutt” by her family, was grandmother of eight grandchildren, Carl and Ramie Tutterrow, Charlie and his wife Katharine, Ryan, Casey, Joshua, and Rachel McCarthy. She was predeceased by her grandson Brannon Tutterrow McCarthy. She was also a great grandmother of Caiden Michael McCarthy and Anna Catharine McCarthy.

Ramie’s graveside memorial service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 25th at the Union Grove Christian Church. There will not be a viewing. She will be interred next to her husband Gene at the church cemetery in Union Grove NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Union Grove Christian Church.
