She was born in Iredell County, NC on December 27th, 1962, to James Powell and Delet Reid Powell, whom have both preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 25 years, Ken Smith; her daughters, Madelyn and Holly; mother in law, Brenda Fowler (Don); father in law, Wayne Smith (Diane); brother in law, Daniel Smith; uncle, Bill Powell (Robbie); cousin, Reid York (Charlotte); sister in law, Dana Ludwig; nieces, Megan Larsen (Brad), Haley Ludwig, Rachel Ludwig; and Rachel Sears.
Reponda graduated from North Iredell High School, obtained her associates degree from Mitchell Community College, and earned her bachelor's degree from Gardner-Webb. She spent the majority of her career working in the banking industry, but retired as the customer service representative for Mecklenburg Times.
Reponda had many interests that included, but were not limited to, photography, chorus, watercolor painting, gardening, and spending as much time as possible on the beach with her family collecting shells. People often remarked that her melodious voice and contagious laughter always brightened their day. Although she is now rejoicing in heaven after being reunited with her parents, the world will shine a little less bright as her family and friends mourn her passing.
A lie in repose is being held Friday, September 2nd, from 12:30pm-7:00pm at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, September 3rd, at Grassy Knob Cemetery in Union Grove at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Reponda Powell Smith Memorial Scholarship fund at Mitchell Community College. Donations can be made via Mitchell Community College's webpage, but checks will need to state on the memo line "Reponda Powell Smith Memorial Scholarship fund".
Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is proud to be serving the Smith family.
