Richard Jr. Burks

Richard Jr. Burks, 63, of 136 Fraley Road, Statesville, died on Jan. 26, 2011, at his residence. He was a native of West Virginia born on April 2, 1947, and was the son of the late Paul and Lettie Mann Burks. He was a retired textile worker.

On Aug. 30, 1986, he married Nancy Marshall, who survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Karen Keesee and her husband, Thomas, of Statesville; one brother, James Burks, and his wife, Mary, of West Virginia; one sister, Margaret Spangler, of West Virginia; four grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his special friends, his dogs, Stinky and Roxy, whom he loved very much.

Richard Burks was always a happy man. He loved and was loved in return by his many friends. He never met a stranger and he loved the outdoors and the little children.

Memorial services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Southern officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
