
Richard George (Dick) Moening, 76, of 633 N. Kelly St., Statesville, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Melrose, Minn., and was a son of the late Herman and Marie Moening. He was a retired cabinet designer and estimator formerly with Cabinet Makers of Statesville. He met his wife, Mollie, in Statesville and they were married Aug. 29, 1959. He was an artist and also enjoyed basketball, fishing and trips to Myrtle Beach.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene (Mollie) Harwell Moening; in-laws, James and Margaret Harwell; a brother, Marvin Moening; and a sister, Mila Moening.
Survivors include his siblings, Phyllis (Bob) Welle, of Lewiston, Idaho, Ronald (Fran) Moening, of Bloomington, Minn., Linda (Jeff) Doble, of Lakeville, Minn. and Butch (Leora Anderson) Moening, of Cottage Grove, Minn.; seven nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a very special cousin and friend, Keith Stallings of Charlotte.
Services celebrating Dick's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, with Pastor Gene Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and return to the funeral home following the committal for a family gathering.
