Richard Sherman Summers

Richard Sherman Summers, 76 years old, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away at Iredell Memorial Hospital on April 24, 2025. He was born on April 11, 1949, in Houstonville to the late James Henry Summers and Fredretha Dalton Summers.

Richard attended Houstonville Elementary School and graduated from Unity High School in Statesville in 1968. He attended A&T State University in Greensboro before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force on May 26, 1971, and was honorably discharged after 24 years of service.

He married his wife of 52 years, Alice Linton Summers, on February 16, 1973.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Vance Summers.

Besides his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory two children, Mark Summers (U.S. Navy) and his wife Daniela Summers, and Stacia Summers.

Survivors include two brothers, Randolph Summers (USAF ret.) and his wife Paulette Summers of Olin, and James Summers and his wife Patricia Summers of Harmony; nieces, Tamara (Anthony) Eckles of Olin, and Freida Torrence of Statesville; great nephews, Darius Torrence of Mt. Airy, LaDonte Turner of Virginia, and A.J. Eckles of Olin; and great nieces, Tahelia (Lamonte) Eddings of Harmony, and Brittany Lomax of Mocksville.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Bill Troutman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery.
