She was born December 30, 1935, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Owen and Grace Carper Lackey. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Terry Kay Lackey, and a brother, Doug Lackey.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney Bumgarner, Jr., whom she married on July 7, 1961; two sons, Philip (Lisa) Bumgarner and Stacey Bumgarner; two grandsons, Bryan (Stephanie) Bumgarner and Todd Bumgarner; and a great-granddaughter, Brianna Bumgarner, all of Statesville.
Funeral service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2014, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. J.C. Parks and the Rev. John C. Parks, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
