

Born June 2, 1936 in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Doyle A. Horne and Frances Wallace Horne.
Spending most of her life in her native city of Charlotte, she was a graduate of Harding High School, Class of 1954, worked in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster, taught Sunday School and volunteered in the library at Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Shirley enjoyed cross-stitching, traveling, reading, birds and most of all she loved her family and being Maw-maw.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Judy Simmons Leach; one brother, Frank Simmons and her husband, Charles Lester Edwards, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles L. Edwards, III and wife Lori of Leasburg, Michael L. Edwards and wife Monica of Statesville, and Jeffrey L. Edwards and wife Shelly of Concord; six grandchildren, Ryan, Victoria, Christa, Caleb, Daniel and Ashley; one great-grandchild, Audrey and two sisters, Dixie Horne Shull of Cayce, SC and Mary Jean Horne Lorrick of Irmo, SC.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home 705 Davie Ave. Statesville, NC. The service celebrating Shirley’s life will begin at 11:00 AM in the Westmoreland Chapel of the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday at Lea-Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery 1820 Ridgeville Road Prospect Hill, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church Library 7424 E. WT Harris Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28227.
