

She was born February 6, 1930, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late John and Ina Feimster Anderson. She graduated from Allen High School in Asheville and received her bachelor degree from Bennett College and her Master’s degree from N.C. A & T University in Greensboro. She was a retired elementary school teacher with the Iredell-Statesville Schools following 32+ years of service. She was a member of Logan Presbyterian Church where she had served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the UPW and the church hospitality committee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on April 17, 1998, by her husband, Willie Louis “Bill” Houpe whom she married in 1952.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Anderson of Statesville; a brother-in-law, Clyde Houpe of Statesville; a niece, Nelda Tatum (Fred) of Charlotte; a great-niece, Dionne Lyde (Eric) of Selma; three great-nephews, Elliott Tatum (Deneen) of Durham, Brian Tatum (Alisha) of Charlotte and James Tatum of Charlotte; special friend, Doris Lewis of Statesville; and other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 PM Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Logan Presbyterian Church in Scotts.
Funeral services celebrating Gin’s life will follow at 1:00 PM Thursday at Logan Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Samuel Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
At other times, the family will be assembled at the sister's home.
