Mr. Marshall was born on September 8, 1957 in Bedford, Massachusetts and was a son of the late George Robert Marshall, Sr., and Elizabeth “Betty” (Janko) Marshall. Their family moved to Miami, FL when he was 5 and they continued to live there until the mid-1990’s. George was graduated of Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School in 1975 and earn his associates degree from RITS Electronics Institute in 1992. He was always interested in science and technology and kept abreast of the latest advances throughout his life.
On May 5, 1989 George married Audrey Parker and immediately started their family with her then six year old daughter Joy and their infant son John. They added daughter Lauren one year later in June of 1990. Together, they would go on to have six children in all, George Robert “Robbie” Marshall III in May of 1994, Dakota “Cody” in April of 1996, and Sarah in June of 1999. The family relocated to Waynesboro in January of 1995 in order to offer their family a safer and quieter life.
George was an avid collector of all things Coca-Cola, as well as lifelong enthusiast and collector of movies. His favorite included anything Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel and Disney. He loved nothing more than to head out to the theater with his family to see the latest superhero movie. George was also a lover of dogs, who through his very last days, would joke of his preference of pets over people. This was apparent in his time spent with his beloved family dog Otis and his various “grandpets”. George enjoyed his years as a grandfather. Called Tubby even by his grandkids, he was always thrilled to get a new picture of them to hang on the refrigerator.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son Cody.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Joe) of Fort Myers, FL; wife, Audrey Parker-Marshall of Staunton; children, Joy Hayes (Ronnie) of Richmond, John Polley (Corie) of Dillwyn, Lauren Westgate (Ron) Crimora, George Robert “Robbie” Marshall, III (Maggie) of Churchville, Sara Marshall of Staunton; his four grandsons, two granddaughters, and one new grandchild due in September.
Burial at Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens will be held privately.
As the family has chosen not to hold a formal funeral service, they ask that anyone who would like to remember Tubby please toast him with an ice cold Coke and think of him the next time you watch your favorite movie.
