Richard Crawford McLaughlin, 87, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday December 19, 2012 at Brightview at Baldwin Park.
Mr. McLaughlin was born on September 27, 1925 and was a son of the late Harry E. and Marion Sheets (Clarke) McLaughlin. Richard served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his military service, he worked for the United States Government Department of Defense for more than 25 years prior to his retirement. He most recently worked for NASA as an engineer in the Space Program. Mr. McLaughlin was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton and also the Staunton Rotary Club.
Mr. McLaughlin is survived by a daughter, Holly Raybon of Birmingham, AL; two sons, Richard Crawford McLaughlin, Jr., of Birmingham, AL, Edwin Brodhead of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Ruth Duncan, Wendy Brodhead, Anna Bradley, Meredith Smith, Mallory Reutter, Tyler McLaughlin; and three great-grandchildren, Rachael Russo, Abigail Russo, and Cohen Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, James Brodhead.
A graveside service with military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post #27 will be held on Saturday December 22, 2012 at 11 AM at Naked Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Paul S. Nancarrow officiating.
