

Mr. Cook was born on October 17, 1952 in Staunton, and was a son of the late Charles Lewis Cook Jr., and surviving Lena Mahulda (Bright) Cook.
He worked for VDOT for more than 20 years in Information Technology. He previously worked for General Electric for 15 years. Mr. Cook loved to fish, play chess and poker, and enjoyed model trains. Samuel was a member of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church.
On May 8, 1999 he married the former Julia Marie Lockridge, who survives.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Cook is survived by his son, Samuel Lewis Cook, II and wife, Keri of Stuarts Draft; siblings, Charles “Chip” Cook, III of Verona, Scott Cook and wife, Helen of Port Republic, Robin Painter and husband, Robert of Stuarts Draft, David Cook and wife, Janet of Stuarts Draft; a granddaughter, Hailey Cook; nephew, Shaun Baker; nieces, Jessica Baker, Hope Cook; and his beloved cat, Merlin.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday March 3, 2022 at 2 PM at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482-0937.
