Sandra Lee (Trayer) Huffer

22 septiembre , 19475 noviembre , 2019
Sandra Lee (Trayer) Huffer, 72, of Verona passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 in her home and surrounded by her family. She was born in Staunton, Virginia on September 22, 1947, the daughter of the late Carl Andrew and Anna Lee (Swearengin) Trayer. Sandra spent her life loving, supporting, and helping everyone that crossed her path in a time of need, including the many stray cats and dogs her daughters frequently brought home. Sandra attended Verona United Methodist Church and before she retired, Sandra worked as a dispatcher with Ntelos where she made many lifelong friends. After retirement, with her children grown and no sports games, practices or tournament to travel to, Sandra began working part-time at Lowes where she loved running into old friends and making new ones. Sandra greatly enjoyed traveling whether it was to Martinsville to visit with Angela, C.D., and her grandchildren, to Charleston, SC to visit Stefanie, or with friends to gospel concerts. She loved cross-stitching and was never far from the tote bag that contained her latest project; however, the greatest joy was gifting her works to her friends and family. When her eyes or fingers grew tired, she moved on to word search puzzles. Nothing made Sandra more delighted and full of joy than spending time with her family, biological or adopted. However, no one could exceed or produce the delight that her grandchildren brought to her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Andrew Trayer, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Wayne Huffer; daughters, Angela (Huffer) White and husband, Charles D. White of Martinsville, VA and Stefanie Huffer of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Charles W. and Anna Lee White; niece, Becky Woodzell; nephew, J.W. Trayer; as well as a overabundance family, friends, and acquaintances whose lives she touched along the way. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Verona United Methodist Church, 406 Lee Hwy, Verona, VA. Burial will follow at Thornose Cemetery in Staunton, VA. Active pallbearers will be James Conner, Jr, Byron Conner, Philip Saunders, Gerald Botkin, Mark Botkin, Marvin Brumbaugh, J.B. Ried, and Matt Paul. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes located at 18 West Frederick St., Staunton, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sandra’s memory to First Choice Hospice, 1819 Virginia Ave, Harrisonburg, VA 22802. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at First Choice Hospice as well as the staff at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for their loving care of Sandra and her family.
