Born July 5, 1958 in Yellowstone National Park, WY, she was a daughter of the late Jack William and Bonnie Marie (Paul) Long.
Sherrie was a member of First Baptist Church, Staunton. She served as 1st Lt. Administrative Officer for the Civil Air Patrol in Richmond from 1979-1980. Sherrie greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and cross-stitch. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Haley Campbell.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Bob Wood; two daughters, Katie Smith and husband, Robbie Smith, Jr. of Gloucester, VA and Amy Griffin and husband, Jason Griffin of Stuarts Draft; grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Mackenzie Campbell, Riley Griffin and Zander Griffin; brothers, William Long of AZ and James Long and wife, Tracy of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Karen Farrar and husband, Doug of Staunton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may sign the guestbook and pay their respects from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick St., Staunton. Due to COVID-19, all who plan to attend will be required to wear a face mask and we ask you limit your visit to 5-10 minutes due to the limit of 10 people gathering at one time.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton with Rev. Sean Lee and Rev. Sarah Lee officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robbie Smith, Jr., Jason Griffin, Brad Ingram, Doug Farrar, and Ralph Griffin.
