From an early age, Kirk demonstrated exceptional intellect, curiosity, and drive. At just 16, he completed a combined senior year of high school and first year of college at Towson University. He later transferred to the University of Delaware, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, graduating on the Dean’s List. At age 20, he began his Ph.D. program at the University of Illinois Chicago and later completed a postdoctoral fellowship in combustion.
Kirk built a distinguished 28-year career spanning both Mechanical Engineering and Software Engineering. A gifted problem-solver, he mastered numerous programming languages on his own and applied his expertise across a wide range of technical fields.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kirk was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered for many years as a soccer and baseball coach and served as team manager for several of his sons’ teams, dedicating countless hours—day and night—to supporting young athletes.
Kirk’s talents and passions were wide‑ranging. At age 14, he became an Eagle Scout and was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He taught himself to play guitar, played the alto saxophone, and was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, the National Honorary Mechanical Engineering Fraternity. He was also the recipient of the Edward A. Strauss Memorial ASHRAE Scholarship Award. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, boating, waterskiing, biking, and soccer.
Kirk is survived by his wife of 27 years, Begoña Rodriguez; his sons, Iñigo Daniel, Nicolas Matthew, and Daniel Diego; his mother, Constance “Conney” Jensen; his brother, Eric Jensen and sister‑in‑law, Patricia Palfi Jensen. He was preceded in death by his father, Randall Jensen, and his father‑in‑law, Javier Rodriguez Gorostiza.
