You called me into your room once around my 7th birthday.  You said, "Mijo, me duele mi corazon.  Aye!"  You went into a spasm, clutching your chest and falling back into the bed with a pained expression on your face and I began to cry.  I beat your chest, trying to hit the pain out of you.  You stopped me when you realized I hit a rectangular piece of plastic on your chest, where your hands were.  I unbuttoned your shirt and found wrapped in your hands a Sega Genesis game you bought me for my birthday.  With tears in my eyes, I began to laugh, and then you, before long we were both laughing on your bed with this game in my hands.  With beads of sweat on your brow, you gave me a big hug and said, "Aye, valecito" and I ran off to play the game.  To this day, this remains my favorite memory of you.  You were the playful, laughing, and light hearted center of a family I often felt outside of, for reasons to do entirely with myself, and you accepted me unconditionally. I thank you for teaching me the value of unbothered laughter, of doing your own thing, and of the beauty of crows feet.  And thank you for spending all that time with me on the front steps of that house, watching the stars, talking about nothing, as I whittled away my 20s.  I love you grandpa.  

Papa,
A month ago today you left us.  My heart is still hurting so much.  You were my companion, my right hand, my confidant.  You were the only man in my life who loved me unconditionally.  I still, to this day cry myself to sleep.  I miss you so very much that it hurts.  It's been very hard not having you here with me.  I miss our nights of playing "Puntos" and dominos.  I can't go grocery shopping without looking at your favorite foods especially getting you your Menudo on Saturday mornings even though at times you would wake me up early and I would complain for waking me up that early, now  what I wouldn't do to have that back.  Thank you papacito for being such a loving, patient and wonderful father to me.  Please continue to guide and look over me during this difficult time.  If only you knew how much I miss you.  TQM papa, until we meet again.

Papa, I want you to know how much I love you and will miss you. I know you are with family in heaven and look forward to seeing you again.  Words cannot express how much you mean to me. Just know your legacy lives on with your children and grandchildren. Salud papa, till we meet again. Your son, Miguel.

Papi,  I love you so much.  Thank you for loving me and taking care of me.  Thank you for teaching me how to drive and for being my first dance partner.  The thought of not being able to hold your hand or give you a kiss on your forehead is too much for my heart to handle.   Please visit me in my dreams and I know that I was one of the luckiest ones to have such a wonderful father.  I will always love you💗

Grandpa.. I’m missing you so much. I’m going to miss seeing you and hearing “hi mijaaaa!!” every time I came over. I can still hear you saying that. I know you’re in a better place, where you’re not in pain anymore. Please watch over us and protect us. Thank you for being the absolute best grandpa I could have ever asked for. I love you so much. 

Papacito……   I love you papi, very much.  I am going to miss seeing your face and taking the cookies away from you.  And telling you, “I don’t care if you get mad”.  My girls miss you like crazy.  You are the only grandfather they have.  They all said, “Im going to miss when grandpa will say, Miiiijjjjjaaaaa”. Now, you can eat all the cookies you want and walk as much as you want without your legs hurting you.  Please come visit me again in my dreams and always watch over me and my family.  I love you pa!!!!
