Evelyn K. Marsala (nee Stankovich), 100 years young; beloved wife of 69 years to the love of her life, the late John Dante Marsala. Loving daughter of the late Sam and Frances Stankovich. Admired sister to the late Dorothy, LaVern, Dolores and Ronnie. Caring mother to Judy (John Frank) Marconi and Patricia (Conrad) Trotsky. Treasured grandmother of Jamie Marconi, Jennifer (Mike) Cahill, Michael (Lizette) Trotsky and Katie (Jason) Kierna. Cherished great-grandmother to Yulissa Jimenez, Francesca and Sam Cahill, Parker, Penelope and Phoebe Kierna.
To know Evie was to love Evie. She was adored by many for her sharp wit, charm and just how special she made you feel. She was a woman of many talents; sketching, sewing, crafting and creating beautiful floral arrangements to name a few. She accomplished so much in her century of life, including her service in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, something of which she was extremely proud. She served as the matriarch of her family who meant everything, using her strong intuition to provide sound advice and wisdom. Through it all, the highlight of Evie’s 100 years was her legendary marriage to her soulmate, the late John Marsala. They always said marriage isn’t giving 50/50, it’s giving 100/100. They both believed to never sweat the small stuff - “gingilini” - and to never go to bed angry. Evelyn was laid to eternal rest one day before what would have been John Marsala’s 100th birthday, and her family knows they were meant to celebrate together.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024. There will be visitation from 8:00 - 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church at 2127 W 22nd Place in Chicago. Burial and Honor Guard following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery at 1400 S Wolf Road in Hillside. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
