Johnny A. Perez, born in San Antonio, Texas, was a long time resident of Berwyn since moving to Illinois to pursue a career as an artist. Johnny attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he received his art training. He then worked for B.C. Kassell Company in Chicago as a calligrapher prior to purchasing it, and continued to operate it and create artwork up until just several years ago. He had a passion for fine illumination, and studying other artists’ works while he developed evermore beautiful works himself.
Johnny proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.
Throughout his life, he spent much of his free time gardening. He loved growing both flowers and vegetables, but everyone would agree that his greatest thrill came from cultivating his tomato plants and seeing how many he could harvest from each vine.
He took guitar lessons and played for his own enjoyment for many years
He will be missed by all of us.
