

Stickney, IL - Luis Enrique “Quique” Ortiz-Devian, age 78, of Stickney, IL, passed away February 25, 2021 at McNeal Hospital.
Quique was born on November 6th, 1942 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He was the 4th son in a family of five sons and one daughter. His parents Luis Ortiz and Agustina Devian-Ortiz preceded him in death along with three of his brothers: Ricardo, Alfredo and Julio. During his life in Guatemala, Quique played for the national Soccer team traveling to many Central American countries, as well as attended Seminary and held a job as an accountant at El Banco de Londres y Montreal.
It was in 1969 that Quique migrated to Chicago, IL. Taking English courses, as well as an acting class, ASPIRA of Illinois is what led him to meet his future wife, Ana Neris, in an acting class and with a simple question “Can I borrow a pencil?” And her response was “Con character devolitivo” (you have to return it to me). The rest is history around dancing, music, and the birth of their two daughters Ana V Guillen and Tania E Ortiz. They eventually divorced.
He is survived by his daughters: Ana V Guillen (John) and Tania E Ortiz; and his grandchildren: Jovanny E Guillen, Ariel M Ortiz, Roberto D Guillen, Evey A Egelston, Avram C Egelston; Great grandchildren: Luke J Guillen and Landon R Guillen.
His Siblings: Alicia Rivera & Carlos (USA), Carlos Ortiz & Concha (Guatemala) and Nieces, Nephews: Maria Prekop (Micheal) their children, Andrew Villarreal (Dominique), Brandon Villarreal; Leticia Rivera-Jimenez (Ruben), their children Bianca Jimenez (Ruben) their children Xavier and Lila Rocha; Natalie Jimenez (Juan) their son Atticus Sosa; Carlos Rivera (Erica) and their daughter Malina Flickinger.
His entire family, in-laws and extended family were blessed by Holidays spent with his company and eating his delicious dishes: Tamales Guatemaltecos, Jocon, Paches and so many others. Their time spent with him was full of laughter, story telling, and dancing.
There are so many things people remember about Quique, but here are a few you should know. He loved to cook and is well known by many for his potato salad. He was a lover of music in both English, Spanish and various genres. Many memories and stories are being told surrounding his dance moves. He was the life of the party, the first one on the dance floor and the last one to sit down.
Quique lived a full life; traveling to places in the United States, as well as Canada. The best road trips where to Niagara Falls and New Orleans.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Mount Auburn Funeral Home (4101 S. Oak Park Ave. Stickney, IL 60402,) March 19th, 2021, 11am - 1pm with a prayer service beginning at 1pm. Inurnment with take place at Mount Auburn Memorial Park following services at the funeral home.
