I miss you grandma Sally I miss going to your room to give you hugs and kisses after my shower . I love you HD.

Aunt Sally, you were my favorite aunt. I have so many great memories of you and the girls (mi primas). I always looked forward to visiting you and staying with you.

You will be missed, but you will be remembered through my cousins and their families.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on behalf of the NAZARIO family for coming to honor the life of Sally Nazario who is mourned today by many who will miss her smiles, her laughter and her love.   
Mother Teresa Once said: 
There are a few ways we can practice humility
To speak as little as possible of one's self
To mind one's own business 
Not to want to manage other peoples affairs
To avoid curiosity
To accept contradictions and corrections cheerfully 
To pass over the mistakes of others 
To accept being slighted, forgotten and disliked
To be kind and gentle even under provocation 
Never to stand on one's dignity 
To choose always the hardest
These words exemplify Sally's life, for she was a humble woman full of strength.  
From the beginning, Sally was a blessing.  She was born in Sheffield Illinois on 09 May 1935 to her loving parents whom the girls later called grandpa and grandma Larry.  Celia Hortega was her given name.  She had two older sisters, Mona and Josie who preceded her in death and a baby sister Mary who is with us here today.  
Sally attended Sheffield High School and because of her outgoing and friendly personality she was voted homecoming queen during her senior year in 1953.  She was personable and very popular.  
But Sheffield could not contain her spirit because she was full of life and ambition.  At the age of 18 she left Sheffield and moved to Chicago.  She didn't fear life in Chicago, she embraced it.  
In Chicago Sally found different jobs in different organizations, you see Sally had dreams.  She worked at Motorcraft, Dominics and Sears each time moving forward.  Her sense of fashion was exquisite. With her rouge on her cheeks and her lipstick on, she always looked like a million bucks.   She was beautiful both inside and out.  
Sally enjoyed socializing at the social clubs as they were called in earlier days.  She would go out with her friends to hear the bands play and they would dance the night away.  Club Chinaco was where Sally met Thomas Nazario and in the late summer of 1962 they married. 
They began to form a family with the birth of their first girl Camille.  Years later Caryn came along, followed by Candace, Cecelia, Theresa and finally Amanda.  Six girls in total.  
So many girls God blessed Sally with, because he knew that she was capable of giving so much love to each and every one of them.  She loved all of them equally and all were her favorite. 
With six girls, Sally was put to the test.  She found a new job and started working at the American Hospital Association and the girls continued to grow.  One by one they started school and mornings soon became hectic.  With five million thing on her mind, Sally woke up every morning and hustled to get the girls ready for school.  As they got older it got a little easier as they soon began to help her curl her hair in the morning.  She would tell them to pinch their cheeks so they'd look rosy as she rushed to her car.  Sally would jump in and reverse down the street to pick up the girls.  They would jump in the car and off Sally went, getting them to school on time was one of those five million things on her mind.   
She invested in her daughters as she saw fit to put them through Catholic grammar schools and high schools.  Although it was costly, year after year she was very resourceful.  She would participate in fundraising and her girls were always the top sellers.  It didn't matter what was being sold, Sally could get the job done and have her girls be on top.  They always seemed to get the good prizes for selling the most.  She even volunteered at Bingo and sold raffle tickets which ended up making her the winner of Camille's first car. She always looked out for her girls and although Sally always had a five million things on her mind she gave of herself effortlessly.

Six girls she clothed and fed
Six girls she led ahead
Through tuff times and many struggles, Sally persevered.  But if you think of how exhausting six girls may have been, she still had more love to give.  For soon she had son-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Thomas was her first grandchild whom she enjoyed watching play hockey.  She found time to pick up Nick and would babysit Matt and HD  even though Matt locked her out of the house once  she loved and enjoyed being around her grandchildren.    
And although Sally was hit with a medical illness at a young age, she faced the challenges head on.  She was able to meet her other grandchild Frankie, David, Eddie, Desiree, Jackson, Ava, Tomas, E-Kari and later her great grandchildren Olivia and Leila.  
One of Sally's favorite things, besides Mexican food, was chewing gum.  And although Sally was no longer able to run around with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she still found a way to give.  For she would share her chewing gum with Jackson and Leila as they sat together enjoying Olivia and Ava's antics.  One for me and one for you Leila would tell Sally.  David and Dezi's visits would bring many hugs, kisses and selfies with Grandma Sally.    
Sally did for everyone including even those she didn't know.  It wasn't uncommon for her to pull over and pick up elderly persons from a bus stop from time to time. Shed give them a ride home especially on cold Chicago winter days.  On one particular night as Sally was driving home, she saw a building up in flames.  Out of that building was a woman crawling out from a window with her child in her arms and the pajamas they wore to bed that night.  It was a cold winter day and Sally was warm inside her car as she drove by.  Without hesitation she pulled over and took her coat off.  She handed the coat to the lady who immediately put it around herself and her child.  Sally jumped back into her car and sped away because she still had a five million things on her mind.   
Sally, Sally, Sally.  With all due respect I call you Sally.  To Sally's daughters' I thank you for bestowing upon me the honor of speaking of your loving mother.  Know that I respectfully call her Sally because I felt like the seventh daughter, not that she needed another one, but that's just how welcomed she made me feel. 
And although I have a mom of my own and have learned many things from her, I also learned many things from your mother Sally.  I learned how a mother should not be afraid to show affection to her children for I always saw her hugging and kissing you girls, and now I show affection to mine.  Sally was very open minded and trusting of her girls, and this taught me to trust my children and allow them to grow into who they would and will become.  When Sally took the girls downtown, she would often bring me along.  Sally taught me that my neighborhoods boundaries were not as far as I could go for there was more to see and do beyond those boundaries. Sally taught me that there were different kinds of people from many walks of life but in the end we are all the same.  Most importantly Sally taught me to be a humble but strong women.  For all this I thank you Sally.    
Know that as the days drew near and your hearts grew heavy I prayed for each and every one of you especially your Mother Sally.  Know that in some way your mother has touched each and every person that is present here today and many others who for one reason or another were not able join us.  
It's hard to think that you will no longer see your mother, for during her 25 years of illness there was not a minute in the day that she was left alone.  For all the love she harvested in you proved to be fruitful.  While she will be missed, know that she will always be watching over you, her son-in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren and those yet to come.  Know that your mother was and always will be a beautiful person to many.  She will be forever missed.

You had a long journey. May you be at peace and rest with our Lord. You can dance again. I hope you are dancing with your sister Josie,Uncle Tommy,and my Jerry. All our Love from your nieces

Dearest Sally, we have gathered here today 3.29.15, to say goodbye and wish you a very safe journey to heaven. Though we have come from near and far to see you one last time, we will remember you as the woman who fought arduously and endlessly till the very end. A woman who set the example for her daughters, through family-acquired customs, beliefs, and moral-ethical values, so as to shape them into the well-prepared women they have now become.  You will be missed by all of us because you touched us all in a very special way.  I will look at the photos I took of you once, and will always remember that beautiful smile you always gave me-- a gift I will always cherish! Go with God and may you watch over all of us as we challenge the adversities of life. Be in peace for you have given your children &  their descendants the tools they need to succeed. We love you, we'll miss you greatly! Lulu

Mom, I love you dearly and I couldn't bear to let you go. I couldn't imagine my life without you. I couldn't imagine holidays or family get togethers without seeing you. I couldnt imagine not having my mom.. But I didn't want you to suffer any longer. Now you will forever be in my heart and I will cherish the memories we have. Thank you for taking care of me and being the best mom I could ever ask for. You are my everything, my life, and my happiness. After all theres nothing like a mothers love.. Xoxo
