Barbara lived a long, beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. Born on May 16, 1930, to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Garrison, she grew up with a spirited heart and a gentle soul — qualities she carried with her every step of the way and shared so generously with everyone she met.
Throughout her life, Barbara wore many hats: a devoted wife to John Lewis, a proud mother, an adoring grandmother, a doting great-grandmother, and a treasured friend. She had a special gift for making everyone feel like family — whether it was with a plate of her famous pimento cheese sandwiches or a story told with her signature warmth and sparkle.
Barbara’s greatest joy was her family, she leaves behind — her son, Donald (Valerie) Bowers. daughter-in-law, Joanne Bowers, two grandchildren, Christy (Jay) Nemec, Will (Megan) Bowers; and four great-grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and delight. She also leaves behind a wide circle of loved ones, sister, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who were blessed to know her sweet spirit. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Bowers and her son, David Bowers.
Barbara’s legacy lives on not just in our memories, but in every laugh shared, every kindness given, and every life she touched. Her love, strength, and joyful heart will forever be woven into the fabric of our family.
She will be laid to rest in a small, private graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Stockbridge, Georgia, on Friday, May 2, 2025. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11am at Suwanee First United Methodist Church, 603 Scales Road, Suwanee, GA 30024.
In keeping with Barbara’s generous spirit, donations may be made in her memory to Suwanee United Methodist Church in Suwanee, Georgia.
Though our hearts ache with her loss, we are comforted knowing that her love surrounds us still — a steady, gentle presence that will guide us always.
