Betty passed March 9, 2024 at her home in Stockbridge, Georgia at the age of 91.
Betty was a wife, a mother, and a grandmother who worked outside her home when she wanted to. Her favorite job was as an aide in a second grade classroom at Stockbridge Elementary School during the 1980's. Her primary passion in life was her faith in and love for Jesus and her church, her husband and her family, cats, and writing. Her greatest accomplishment was the time she spent with her granddaughter from the time she was born until she started school. She enthusiastically taught her all kinds of things that developed an obsession for learning. Betty lived long enough to understand that her granddaughter earned her PhD in Musicology only five days before she passed. There has never been a more proud grandmother!
Betty enjoyed being in nature. Camping was something the family enjoyed when we were all much younger, and she particularly loved shallow streams that she could walk in, and waterfalls. She and her husband traveled during his time in the Air Force and spent time in Washington State, and Honolulu, Hawaii, where their first child was born. Betty loved making and decorating wedding cakes, sewing and quilting. She took great pride in having learned from her dad how to paint a room and not get paint on herself (amazing). As a writer, she was very active in the Henry Writers Guild for its entire 30-year life-span. She became a favorite contributor to the icanhazcheezeburger cat site and earned the top-rated daily photo with caption several times.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Wanda Jane Davis whom is also being laid to rest today with her beloved mother. Wanda was born May 30, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia, and passed February 17, 2014 from a brain tumor. Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Marvin Douglas Davis, her daughter Jean Melilli and her husband Ross also of Stockbridge, and her granddaughter, Dr. Jeana M. Melilli, of Brunswick, Georgia. Last but not least, she is survived by Mr. Binky the Cat Caretaker, and feral kitties, Little Kitty, Toons, Sparky, and Tippy.
A graveside celebration of life will be held for Betty on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
