

Charles Riley of McDonough passes away Peacefully on November 19, 2011 after a lengthy battle against Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Charles was born to the late Charles Riley, Sr. and Mattie Virginia (Cook) Riley on September 13, 1928 at Georgia Baptist Hospital. He graduated from Commerical High School and Georgia State University. Charles served as Finance Clerk in the 310th Military Government Group (Ready Reserves) from April 23, 1950 to June 1, 1959, receiving the rank of Master Sergeant. He joined the IBM Corporation in March 1952, where he retired June 1, 1990, having received six IBM Service Awards. Charles was a dedicated member and steward of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Decatur from October 1963 until December 2002. There, he served as a deacon and volunteered in numerous positions of leadership. Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Johnnie Elizabeth Dobbs Riley; son, Kevin Riley ( Laurie ); daughter, Kelly Miller ( Mike); three grandsons, Timothy Riley (Kara), Stephen Riley, and Matthew Riley; granddaughter, Rachel Riley; and step-grandson, Jim Hinds. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday November 22nd. Services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday November 23rd at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel located at 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge. In lieu of sending flowers, those who wish to do so may make memorial donations to Woodlawn Hall at Luther Rice Seminary, 3038 Evans Mill Road, Lithonia, Georgia 30038
