She was an amazing woman who held many titles: Wife, Mama (Momma), Sister, and Granny to name a few. She was a strong, determined, and devoted Lady always putting others first.
Dot was an amazing cook with lots of practice (three hot meals, seven days a week). If Daddy couldn't come home for lunch: she was the original Meals on Wheels and delivered it to him. No one could wash clothes better than her with five kids, when cloth diapers were the only option and everything was hung on the clothesline to dry. Gardening season brought more labors of love to prepare food to feed the family. She made amazing dill pickles and cut corn off the cob; station wagon loads at a time. Somehow, she still had time to sew for her kids and grandkids. Mama was also a chauffeur. She would load that station wagon up with us kids and here we go. With Daddy being self-employed, that left Mama to be the Bookkeeper/Parts and Tire Go-Getter. Many times she would have a cake in the oven and have to turn it off, drop everything and hit the road. She did whatever was needed to keep the house going and everyone happy. Mama was also a disciplinarian, she never said “wait til your Daddy gets home”. She just took care of business! She was a selfless Lady who would do without so others could have whatever was needed.
Later in life, she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her sisters, Hazel and Judy. They were affectionately referred to as “The Hens”. It was always a laugh a minute with those three and they had a BIG time.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cora Lane; beloved husband, Glen Mitchell; son, Gerald Mitchell; brother, James Lane; and sister, Hazel Lane. She is survived by her sons, Tony Mitchell (Susan) and Alan Mitchell (Donna); daughters, Debbie Brackett (Glenn) and Melanie Lee; and one sister, Judy Danner. Dot also leaves eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
