Doug was born to Martha Douglas Stephens and Theodore Peter Stephens on September 7, 1941 in Atlanta, GA. He attended Fulton High School, received his Bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee and did graduate work at Georgia State University.
His career spanned from working as a traveling auditor for the U.S. government to working for Southeast Atlanta Beverage in various positions until his retirement in 2008. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963.
He was proud of his ancestors and was a member of Sons of the Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Sons of the American Revolution and Society of Colonial Wars. He attended St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, loved his family and loved riding old steam trains.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Stephens; father, Theodore Stephens; his grandson Kyle Fincher and Son-in-law Jimmy Fincher.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Gordon Stephens, his son Kevin Stephens and his daughter-in-law Beth Stephens, daughter, Karen Fincher, grandchildren, Jessica Stephens, Mitchell Stephens, Jacob Fincher, Stephanie Fincher and great-grandchildren, Elijah Fincher, Eva Fincher and Caleb Stephens.
Family and friends will be received for a visitation on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 6-8 PM at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, GA. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, 1865 Highway 20 E., McDonough, GA.
