

Henry Archie Gartrell was born September 20, 1935, in Washington, Georgia to the late Henry and Hattie Stanglin Gartrell, both of whom preceded him in death. He went home to be with the LORD on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
At an early age he gave his life to Christ and united with the Springfield Baptist Church where his great grandfather was the founder of the church.
Upon graduating from high school, Henry moved to Atlanta Georgia to attend Morehouse College. He completed two years of college before he was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War. During his tour, he was certified as a Quartermaster, Color Guard and specialized in Light Weaponry. After fulfilling his military obligation, Henry was honorably discharged. He relocated to Hartford Connecticut where he was employed by the State of Connecticut. He retired after 20 years of dedicated service and moved back to Georgia.
Henry was a devoted and caring family man. He was well known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Jazz, deep sea fishing, and watching sports. He loved spending time with his dog, Bianca.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 40 years, Mary, two sons, Michael (Denise) Gartrell of Hartford, Connecticut and Derrick Gartrell of Bloomfield, Connecticut; two daughters, Andrea Sampson and Gwendolen Farrington of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Emily of South Carolina; Jillian, Michael Jr. of Hartford, Connecticut; Keaston and Kayla of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Cecilia Evans of Winter Park, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
