On April 28th, 1957 exactly 60 years ago, Isiah was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in symbol of his dedication to Jehovah. Then on June 23rd, 1962 Isiah married the love of his life, Lizzie Ann Dawson. They had 2 children --- Neal and Cindy. He was a devoted husband and father; providing for his family physically and spiritually was important to him. He and Ann were blessed to celebrate 50 beautiful years of marriage before she fell asleep in death.
Isiah was known to be thoughtful, dependable, and approachable especially as he served as an elder in various congregations for many years until his death. He was caring, loving, lovable, and was affectionately known by many as "Papa Mitchell" or "Grandpa Mitchell". Others knew him simply as "Junior". Although a serious person, Isiah liked to laugh and have a good time. He loved baseball and especially enjoyed playing checkers and fishing. Even with failing health, Isiah was active in the preaching work. He was known to be seen driving his "big blue van" throughout Henry County, preaching from door-to-door with his oxygen tank in tow.
Left to cherish Isiah's memory are his son Neal Mitchell and his wife Jessica, his daughter Cindy Mitchell, and his grandson Dane. He dearly loved his sisters and brothers: Charlotte (Alfred) Clark, Hazel (James) Maddox, Carrie (Roosevelt) Smith - deceased, Floyd (Mildred) Mitchell - deceased, and Eugene (Elizabeth) Mitchell - deceased. Isiah will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends along with Lizzie Ann's family. As we reflect on his relationship with Jehovah, his relationship with his family, and his relationships with his spiritual brothers and sisters, may we all find comfort.
To our family and friends:
We want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of your support during this difficult time. Perhaps you sent a lovely card, sent a text message, called or visited. Perhaps you just listened. Your presence has made our hearts feel lighter. We especially appreciate all of the earnest prayers to our loving and merciful father Jehovah in our behalf. (Ruth 2:12)
The family will receive friends Friday, May 5th 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 6th 2017 at Kennedy Memorial Gardens at 1 pm. Worship service to follow at 3 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 4126 Flakes Mill Rd, Ellenwood, GA 30294.
