Affectionately known as “Jack,” she was the eleventh of thirteen children. At an early age, she learned the importance of family and a good work ethic. Since she was raised feeding cows and working in the garden with her siblings, she was not afraid of hard work. She attended County Line Elementary School and graduated from Hamilton High School, Scottdale, GA, Class of 1963.
Deacon and Mother Rice, one of the founding families of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Ellenwood, GA, made sure she and all her siblings were rooted and grounded in God. From her youth, she faithfully served and worshipped at Poplar Springs Baptist Church by participating in the youth choir, senior choir, and the missionary society. She also contributed as a church administrator.
On October 11, 1969, Jacquelyn joined her childhood friend and fellow choir member, Mr. Nathaniel Jackson, the son of Rev. J.W. & Lassie Jackson, in holy matrimony. To their 55-year marriage, they were blessed with six children and 16 grandchildren, Jonathan (DeShun & Joshua), Marquis (Marquis, Paris, Marquia, D’Angelo, Kesmond, & Simone), Timothy (Timothy, Tatiana, & Thomas), Natalie (Genika, Jeremy, & Quavious), Nathaniel II (Nathaniel III & William) and David. Having a house filled with children, she and Nathaniel quickly learned how to make a dollar out of 15 cents. Their selfless acts ensured all were provided for and knew they were loved. Believing in not sparing the rod, sometimes that love came at the fold of a belt or the sting of a switch. They wanted their children delivered!!! The children all knew this was not done in malice. Nay and Jack wanted only the best for their children. Along with being a mother, which was her highest honor, Jacquelyn served as a caring and diligent team member at Georgia Regional Hospital, until her retirement in 2009.
Jacquelyn loved reading The Word, singing, listening to good gospel music, her soap operas, horror/sci-fi movies, cooking, raising flowers/plant/vegetables, word puzzles, and having long conversations with family and friends.
Jacquelyn leaves behind to cherish the splendid memories, her husband, Nathaniel Jackson; children, Jonathan (Tracy) Jackson, Timothy Jackson, Natalie Jackson, David (Yesha) Jackson, Nathaniel (LeToya) Jackson II, Mechelle Wilson; brother, David T Rice; and three sisters, Mildred Brinkley, Arrie Walton, and Thelma Rice. She is preceded in death by her son Marquis (Scarlett) Jackson; parents Claudes & Mary Rice; siblings Ruthie Lee (Charles) Langston, William E. Rice, Mary Frances (Charles) Primus, Charles Alfred (Virginia) Rice, Claudes “CL” Rice Jr., Dorothy W. (Thomas) Perry, Delores E. (Daniel) Wood, Ronald Rice, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held for Jacquelyn on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
