Larry James Rogers, a man whose spirit was as strong and bright as the life he lived, peacefully passed into eternal rest on April 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and daughter. Born on September 10, 1950, in Cartersville, Georgia, Larry was the fifth child of the late Walter P. Rogers Sr. and Katie Pearl Rogers.
From a young age, Larry’s life was rooted in faith and family. He joined Mt. Zion Grassdale Baptist Church early in life and attended the Bartow County Public School System. A proud graduate of Cass High School’s Class of 1969, Larry made his mark as a dedicated student and athlete, playing on the school’s football team.
After high school, Larry set his sights on the future and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. There, he pursued his passion for electronics at DeVry Institute, earning a certificate that would shape his career for decades to come. He worked tirelessly in the electrical field—first as a self-employed technician and later with Georgia Power, where he served as a trusted mechanic for 18 years. His work ethic and craftsmanship touched countless lives.
In 1982, Larry married the love of his life, Angel Jenkins Rogers of Boston, Massachusetts. Their union was one of deep friendship, mutual respect, and unwavering love. In 1994, they welcomed their greatest joy, their daughter, Dr. Lanerica J. Rogers. To Larry, family was everything, and his pride in his wife and daughter was limitless.
Larry lived life with joy and adventure. He found peace in nature—spending cherished days fishing, hunting in the fall, and traveling whenever he could. A lifelong Mason (1990–2018) and avid motorcycle enthusiast, he loved the open road and the camaraderie of fellow riders. Later in life, he took to the highways once more as a cross-country truck driver and proudly owned his own truck until his health began to decline in 2018.
Beyond his work and hobbies, Larry’s heart beat for music. Whether it was the smooth melodies of jazz, the soul of the blues—especially B.B. King—or the powerful harmonies of gospel quartets like Lee Williams and the Canton Spirituals, music brought him joy and comfort. His presence at live events was a testament to his love of sound and spirit.
Larry was fun-loving, sincere, and full of life. His laughter, his stories, and his wisdom will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering love.
He is cherished in the loving memories of his devoted wife, Angel, and their cherished daughter, Lanerica Jamese Rogers. His beloved sister, Lois Annett Craddock (preceded in death by her husband, Dinecious), and his treasured brothers: 1SG (RET) Michael (Brandee) Rogers, Colonel Harvey (Astrid) Robinson, the late Roy (Sarah) Rogers, the late Willie Rogers, the late Terry (Jacqueline) Robinson, and the late Walter Philip (Elaine) Rogers Jr. His memory is also held dear by his nieces: Laquetta (Julius) Barnes, Yolanda (Rico) Freeman, Mariah (Austin) Miller, and Phyliss Jones; and by his nephews: Tyrone Rogers, Andre Jones, Rodney Jones, and Devin Robinson. He will also be deeply missed by many cousins, extended relatives, and friends.
Larry James Rogers touched many lives with his light, and though he may be gone from our sight, his warmth and spirit remain with us always.
