Mr. Smith was an Army veteran where he served his country as a paratrooper. He loved to tell stories of all his jumps and equipment he worked with. Following his service, Phillip was a vehicle mechanic with Georgia Power supporting the construction of power lines throughout the state of Georgia. He later moved on to become the operations manager at Ryder Truck Leasing. Phillip was responsible for numerous facilities in Jonesboro, Forest Park and Newnan. He retired after 30 years in 1997.
Mr. Smith’s passions later in life were spending time listening to music and singing along, feeding his many feathered friends, working in his yard on the tractor, spending time with his wife and children, and reminiscing about times gone by.
We never could have dreamed of a better husband and Papa. He was the most hard-working, generous, funny and loving man. There was never, nor will there ever be, a man that measures up to our Papa.
We love you Papa.
