At an early age, she moved to Atlanta to live with her grandmother, the late Ms. Mildred “Big Momma” Meredith. Diane attended elementary in the Atlanta Public School System and graduated from West Fulton High School.
In 1969 Diane married Quincy L. Berry, to their union, four children were born. She began a career in telecommunications at Bellsouth. She remained at the phone company where she retired after 34 years of service.
A few years ago, Diane had a stroke, and was hospitalized for over a month. After her release, she was able to enjoy one week with her family, and then she suffered a massive stroke. This time it was life altering and Diane was left with some brain damage, kidney failure, and paralysis of her left side. God allowed her more time, using the best doctor to care for her, Dr. Omofayo Akinmade. He has truly been a blessing to our family.
Shirley Diane will be remembered as “Sassy and straight to the point.” She would give you the shirt off her back “After giving you a piece of her mind.”
The service for her will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at the Horis A. Ward Funeral Home – Fairview Chapel, located at 376 Fairview Rd. Stockbridge, GA 30281.
