He was born on September 15, 1932, in Conley, GA to Arnold and Maude Hardin. He grew up in the Cedar Grove Community and attended Cedar Grove United Methodist Church which had a significant impact on his life. At the age of 18 he left home to attend college, at the best institute in the land, Georgia Tech to become an electrical engineer, but Uncle Sam came a calling. He joined the Navy, and it was “Anchors Aweigh” to fight in the Korean War. While serving in the military he met, by chance, a “California Girl” named Donna Dorthy Tarver and swept her off her feet. After a 3-week whirlwind romance, they married on September 24, 1954. They quickly started their family which included 4 girls and 2 boys.
Through the years “Our Hero” was committed to so many things, first and foremost his family. He coached each of his children in softball and baseball for over 23 years at Bouldercrest Park. He served as deacon at his home church, Bouldercrest Baptist, where he used his God given baritone voice in the choir. He was a huge history buff and had a massive National Geographic collection. If you ever needed an answer to a trivia question, he would be your phone a friend. He loved his work as an electrician, and he would always “fix your shorts” as his business card stated. He continued working until the young age of 86. He was an avid Braves fan and an even bigger Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fan!! THWG!!
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children and those who knew and loved him. Children, Wallace Jr. (Flor) Hardin, Karen Hardin (Margie Kline), Kelly Hardin, Barry (Tracie) Hardin, Jennifer (Greg) Bruce and Kimberly (Nick) Smith; His nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
“Be good Daddio (Padre, Diddy)!” We can hear you saying now, “Well, I have to be.”
We know Heaven has not only gained a Ramblin Wreck from Georgia Tech and one Helluva engineer but our daddy, who was our Hero and our Heart!
We love you MORE!
