Scott, as he was affectionately called, was born in Sacramento, California, where his father was stationed at Travis Air Force Base. In 1961, the family was transferred to Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, where Scott grew up in Warner Robins and then Decatur, living close to aunts, uncles and cousins. He graduated from Gordon High School and attended Dekalb Community College.
Through the years, Scott worked for several companies including the Anheuser-Busch distributor, Atlanta Beverage Company, and Progressive Lighting. For the past 11 years he was employed by Congregation Beth Hallel as the Facilities Assistant. He loved the people at his job and was grateful for the love and kindness he received from his work family who called him William.
He was a loyal and loud sports fan who followed the Falcons, Braves, and Yellow Jackets. And he loved to fish, whether hooking a shark off the Destin coast or reeling in a big bass at his Uncle Ray’s place.
Scott’s first love was his family and he was proud of every one of them. He loved family gatherings at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and January birthday bashes with lots of laughter and plenty of food. He enjoyed trips to Warner Robins for special occasions and to visit his sister, Babs, who always packed up some of her special brownies and even tuna noodle casserole for him to take home.
Scott is survived by his son, Maxwell; daughter-in-law, Lauryn; and his much-loved grandson, Jordan, who called him Pop. He is also survived by his siblings, James Terry (Rebecca) of Johns Creek, Georgia, Wanda Simasko (Steve) of Pullman, Washington and his brother-in-law, James Cretors of Warner Robins, Georgia. “Uncle Scottie” will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Kim Clifford of Atlanta, Georgia, John Cretors (Kelley) of Hayneville, Georgia, Sara Beth Dean (Dexter) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Meg Terry of Nashville, Tennessee and Matt Simasko of Lewiston, Idaho; great-niece, Austin Cretors and great-nephews Jac Cretors and Griffin Dean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jeanette Terry; his older sister, Barbara Cretors, who was like a second mother to him; niece, Corinne Simasko; and nephew-in-law, Carl Clifford.
Remember William/Scott/Pop when you go fishing, celebrate a touchdown, or belt out a favorite song. His booming voice will be missed, but family and friends are comforted that he was able to share time with loved ones during his final days.
