Wilma Irene Montgomery Carter

The youngest of their ten children, Wilma was born on February 21, 1941 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Jasper and Abilene Gilliam. She was married to Harvey S. Montgomery (deceased) USAF for 32 years, traveling the United States and having three children during their loving marriage. Many years later, she married Wilbur Carter (deceased) and moved to Valdosta, Georgia, where they shared 10 years of marriage.

In 2009, Wilma moved back to Stockbridge, Georgia to be closer to her daughters. She adopted a daughter when her oldest daughter was in high school and all the girls are very close. She was a great wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved and served the Lord all of her life. Wilma was very active and self-sufficient until her passing. She loved to spend time with her family, garden, traveling to the beach and mountains. She loved and cared for many dogs during her life. Wilma will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey S. Montgomery, as well as Wilbur Carter. She is survived by her daughters, Gail (Scott) Richardson, Penny Montgomery, Joy Roberts, and Debbie Chesney; grandsons, Aaron and Chris Roberts, Alex and Eric Dresko, and Cody Richardson; great grandchildren, Riley and Rhett Roberts, Reese Dresko, and Henry Dresko.

A visitation of family and friends will be held for Wilma on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of her life will occur Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside committal at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum | 6841 Tara Blvd, Jonesboro, Georgia 30236.
