I have so many favorite memories between Mama Yvette and me. I called Yvette Mama because of her mothering and sisterly touch we share. 
During our seminary time, I was new to Atlanta and a new wife. Mama Yvette was instrumental in cultivating date nights for us. She would cook 5-course meals and serve us in our quaint on-campus apartment between classes, long studying sessions, and ministerial demands. She taught us that we had to be intentional in our marriage and ministry. I’ve been thinking of her a lot lately. Skee Wee Mama Yvette, I love you always! 

What a shock to hear news of Yvette Assem's passing.  I met Yvette when I served at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake City.  Yvette was a beautiful, sweet, supportive, creative, woman of God.  I can't eat good red velvet cake without thinking about Yvette's.  The girl could cook.  I admired her ability to take care of home repairs.  She could handle a hammer and nails.  I was very proud when Yvette decided to follow the calling of God and enter seminary.  God has used her throughout her life to touch lives for the Kingdom.  Well done good and faithful servant!  May God give peace to her family and all who love Yvette.  God bless you.

My friend!   I will remember the laughs!  I will remember to enjoy good food and great music!  I will remember you taught me to live life to her fullest!   I will remember how much you loved all of us!!

“I was hungry and you gave me something to teat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” These words from Matthew 25:35 describes the kindness, hospitality and love I received from my sister-friend Soror Rev. Yvette Assem.  
We met while in seminary.  She opened her home to me and provided a warm, inviting, loving and safe place for me; her home became my Atlanta home.  I realize I am not an exception; I am but one of many that she opened her home and heart to.  I am among many others who can testify of her hospitality.
While I am heart broken because my  sister-friend is no longer a phone call away.  I will no long be able to drop in on the house on the corner with the fragrant gardenia and partake of the dark chocolate waiting at the door.  I will hold on the memories of the jovial “Hey!” and big broad smile.  These three lessons from her life will remain with me for a lifetime:
1.	Hospitality is gift…give it generously
2.	There is power in the black woman’s touch…use it wisely
3.	Love others genuinely and deeply….it feeds the soul.

Godmother and Soror Yvette Assem, left an indelible mark on my life through various of dynamics. Over the years post ITC, we have kept in touch. She anchored me through many life transitions through her Womanist Touch and  intuitive wisdom. Yvette, sowed into me and my families life. I was her communal daughter and I am a better Woman, Mother, Elder and Womanist Care Provider by her tutelage. To the family my prayers and condolences to each of you. Just as our hearts are heavy I empathize with each of you. 

Yvette and I attended Roosevelt High together. She and I were friends.  Later in life we met up again when she started going to have her hair done by my nephew.  She was always pleasant and was such a sweet person.  I am leaving a memory from our high school days.  Yvette is standing in the front in the group.  I am behind her.  She will be sorely missed.  My condolences to all who loved and cherished her.  

I am shocked of her passing!  While at ITC, I ordered a  cake for my Mom's birthday. Yvette brought  me the cake then absolutely  refused to be paid because it was for my Mother's 70th birthday ♥ !!!   On another occasion, our professor insisted on having class on the Wed night before Thanksgiving.  We were mad but most people showed up because we had to do our weekly group presentations. After we finished, he started lecturing.  She slyly brought a cake up off the chair beside her and put it on the table. Another classmate started cutting it and passing out pieces to everyone. Prof. finally gave up  on lecturing and got a piece of cake, too! I know all who knew her will miss her! 

Oooooo child “In my aunt Yvette voice” We’re do we begin.We have shared a bouquet of memories sprayed with love and laughter .First and foremost You were a true servant of God.A woman of many words and wisdom.Your ministry was everything.You have touched many people all over the world.You were a loving sister and Aunt.You were also an AKA SKEEE Weeeeeeeee!.You loved your sorority sisters dearly. Grandma would be so proud of you.You were a great example  Of A Black Queen = a highly respected and resilient woman of African descent : a TRUE goddess 


-Sometimes God picks a flower that’s still in full bloom.
Sometimes the flower that is chosen, we feel He’s picked to soon.
We’re at peace knowing; in God’s heavenly garden,
Aunt Yvette Your work here on earth is done 
Rest easy now 
 we will finish what you begun 

Yvette,  Although we didn't talk much, but the conversations we encounter I can see you were a beautiful person inside and out!  You were very intelligent, loving and inspiring!!

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal!!

You will be MISSED Yvette!!

To my Loving half sister,
 I am still in disbelief  to hear of your passing.  Although we had loss touch over the years, we shared so many special moments as kids and young adults.  Your strength, perseverance, and gentle spirit speak volumes and will surely be missed by the many lives you have touched. I pray that you are now at peace and resting with the Almighty above. I pray for our family and extended family as we go through the healing process of such a sad and heartfelt loss. fbb

Yvette, we shared some great times together. You touched many lives and I can say you brought joy and laughter to mine. You never knew a stranger and cared deeply for the ones you loved. Love you always and you will be missed. 

You will always be my seminary buddy.  We spent so many hours laughing and talking.  I still can see your big smile.  I look forward to seeing you again.  

She was my Soror and my spiritual sister. We traveled to Egypt together. She was my husband Carl’s best friend. I’m in total shock. She loved people and she loved God. The world will be so much dimmer without her bright light shining.
