Betty Sherman Lane was born on January 18, 1928 in Petaluma, CA. She was the only child born to Tim and Leigh Sherman. As a young girl, Betty lived in San Jose and Pacific Grove. The family moved to Stockton in 1943. She was a proud graduate of Stockton High School, graduating in 1946. After high school, she attended Humphreys College.
She met the love of her life, Nathaniel Joseph Lane Jr. on a blind date. They were married on August 21, 1949 and were married for 52 years. They had four children, Debbie, Brian, Jan and Eric.
Betty loved to travel; she and Nat traveled all over the world. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Betty’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was a great mom, kind, funny, adventurous and generous; we will miss her dearly.
Betty spent many years playing tennis every day at Oak Park. She attended all of her children’s sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader. Betty and Nat enjoyed many years skiing with family in the Tahoe region.
Betty worked for Stockton Unified School District as a secretary for 22 years. She retired in 1991. After retiring she became a member of the Dameron Hospital Auxiliary.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Nat, in 2001. She is survived by her four children, Debbie (Stanley) Lathrop, Brian (Susan) Lane, Jan (Fred) Lavaroni and Eric Lane. She also leaves nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild who will arrive in May.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Garden Oaks in O’Connor Woods for the kind and compassionate care they have given mom over the last four years. The family is also very grateful for the extraordinary care given by Hospice of San Joaquin.
Services will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin.
