Deschel Ramon Clifton affectionately known as “Fattyso or Fatty” passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at San Joaquin General Hospital, French Camp, CA surrounded by a host of family and friends. He was born in Stockton on July 20, 1965. He is preceded in death by his parents Almer Ree Dean and Zebedee Clifton, and his Grandmother, Sweetie Scroggins, and his brother Deon Graves. He held several positions at various companies throughout his life including working at Heinz Cannery in Stockton; Counselor at Ready-To-Work in French Camp; and had plans to start training as a truck driver.
Fattyso was raised by his Grandmother, Sweetie Scroggins who loved and adored him. She was the one who nicknamed him “Fattyso” when he was still a baby in her arms as she caressed and playfully said to him “how fat and cute you are” until the playful banter evolved into “You are just a Fattyso!” The rest is history. He became known as Fattyso by all his family and friends. He also inherited her zest for life and her ability to make everyone in his life feel welcomed and loved. He was an integral part of his community; hosting cook-outs for his family and friends that was always a “must-attend” affair especially if Fattyso was barbequing (which he always did). Fattyso was an incredible cook and an effective manager of any kitchen. His laughter was contagious, his energy infectious, and wherever he went, he had a unique way of turning any gathering into a celebration.
Fattyso knew how to connect with people, especially children. Whether it was his own children or those in the neighborhood, Fatty had a way of making them feel safe, loved, and important. His smile and playful spirit created an environment where kids could be themselves, knowing they were in the presence of someone who genuinely cared for them. It was an amazing thing to watch how a child’s face would light up with the biggest grin around Fatty. He was truly the “child whisperer.” So many children adopted Fatty as their Father which he wholeheartedly accepted and probably secretly viewed as a badge of honor.
Fattyso’s impact goes far beyond his deep connection to his community. He was a loving father. He was a Dad who was present throughout his children’s lives; caring for them; bonding with them; and building lasting memories.
Fattyso lived a complicated life, but he lived it on his terms and by his rules. He saw no reason to explain himself or his actions to anyone. He felt that those who loved him knew his true heart. That he may have hard edges, but his inner soul was full of kindness, compassion, and love for others.
He is survived by his wife Ann Lee-Clifton; his children Deschel Clifton Jr., Darius Clifton, Stevie Wilson, Tanzania Stanton, Jameka Moore, Menione Moore, Ramon Celestine; his grandchildren Cozette Clifton, Delilah Clifton, Brooklyn Clifton, Deschel Clifton III, Damaryan Harris, Camisha Moore, Railynn Hutchings, Romeal Hutchings, and Brian Stanton Jr.; his brother Lanell Graves; his Aunt Mildred Moon (Earl Whitaker) and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will occur Friday, September 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Victory In Praise, 2029 E Harding Way, Stockton, CA 95205.
