She was born on May 6, 1932 in Stockton, CA to Valentin and Blasita Gardea Rey. She graduated from Stockton High School and was a homemaker.
Eleanor is survived by her five children, Kathy, Frank, Dee Dee, Rick (Janice), and Judy (Leo); siblings, Connie Lopez, Gloria Esquivel and Marty Melendez; eight grandchildren, Angela, Marissa (Jesus), Brandon, Jordon, Daniel, Rio, Geoffrey, Justin; and a great-grandchild, Alessandro Antonio. She was predeceased in death by her siblings, Pauline Lucas, John Rey, Margaret (Maggie) Estrada, Gilbert Rey, Raymond Rey, Ernestine (Tina) Cohen and Willard Rey, as well as her former husband Frank V. Gonzales. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and family who love her. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
Eleanor loved God with her heart and soul. She lived a Catholic faith-filled life and belonged to various church service organizations. She was a kind and gentle mother and grandmother. She always encouraged others to pursue their goals and dreams. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, sewing and taking care of her plants.
Visitation will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California Street on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 2-6 pm. Rosary will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel at 6:00 pm. A funeral is scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Cathedral of the Annunciation. A burial will follow at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eleanor’s life at a reception in the hall at St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton, CA.
