

Jim Hushaw, 90, former managing editor of The Stockton Record, passed away September 2, 2025, surrounded by Glenda, his wife of 68 years, and each of his children and grandchildren. A journalism graduate from San Jose State (1957), Hushaw had a 46-year career with newspapers, serving as managing editor at The Stockton Record, Reno Evening Gazette, Nevada State Journal, Riverside Press-Enterprise, and Glendale News-Press. He retired in 1995 as The Record’s community relations manager.
Survived by Glenda, sons Craig (Cindy) and Jeff, daughter Jana Maynard (Albert), and grandchildren Haylie, Scott, Morgan, and Adam. Preceded in death by parents Charles and Marie, and brother Bill.
A track athlete at San Jose State and Hoover High (Glendale, CA), Hushaw was active in Stockton’s community, chairing the Asparagus Festival and serving on multiple boards. He loved the beach, golf, reading, and Lake Tahoe, where he owned a home. A trailblazer, he hired diverse reporters at The Record and led its transition to a morning paper.
Memorial service to be determined at later date. Internment at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Columbarium, Incline Village, NV. Donations to Smile Train Foundation or Hospice of San Joaquin preferred.
A celebration of life for James will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr, Stockton, California 95219.
