Beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, Mary Agnes Coykendall passed away peacefully at the San Joaquin Hospice House in Stockton December 3, 2025. Mary was born March 28, 1926 in San Bruno, California. During her childhood, she moved to Tracy, CA in 1932 at age 7 where she was raised with her sister Margaret. She graduated from Tracy high school in 1944. She graduated Holy Names college with a BA in 1948, six months later with a teaching credential. She married John “Bud” Coykendall December 28, 1950 after reconnecting with him at their five-year high school reunion through his best friend Weldon “Don” Church. On February 25, 1952 she gave birth to her beloved son John “Roski” Coykendall. She taught in public schools throughout several US states for 25 years and volunteered teaching for eight years before retiring.
They lived in many states, following Bud’s career and retired in Thayne, Wyoming, before moving to O’Connor Woods in Stockton in 2003. During her time at O’Connor Woods she was consistently involved in various activities. She chaired many events, including the Christmas staff fundraiser and was an integral member of the O’Connor Woods Catholic Chapel community. She will be remembered as a true godly angel here on earth, and for her charitable giving.
She is survived by three grandchildren; Charles, Katie, and Victor Coykendall and great granddaughter Zoë Coykendall, daughter-in-law; Paula Coykendall, all of Massachusetts, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished along with their children and grandchildren.
We are thankful for the care provided by Tilly and Joe Leos for more than 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her sister, her husband, her son and her best friend; Sylvia Berk Clark.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Dominican Friars and Mercy Ships charitable organizations.
A celebration of life will be held December 13 at the O’Connor Woods Chapel.
