

Mary Ann Grimes (n‚e Tuscan) passed away on December 25, 2016 in San Rafael, CA at the age of 90. Mary is survived by her three children, Gregory Charles Grimes (Janine) of Milpitas, Antoinette Marie Grimes (David Cohen) of San Rafael, and James Thomas Grimes of Salem, Oregon; one grandchild Rosalie Cohen, and her brother's family in Ohio and Florida. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Mikel and Antonetta Tuscan and brothers Joe and Leo Tuscan.
Mary was born on December 4, 1926 in Crestline, Ohio. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School, Gailon High School, and graduated from business school in Columbus, Ohio. She worked as a bookkeeper and also for her husband's civil/structural engineering firm. Mary resided in Stockton from 1952 until 2004. She moved to Petaluma from 2004 until 2012 and then lived in San Rafael until the time of her death.
Mary was a lifelong bowler, tennis player, swimmer, and bocce ball enthusiast. She loved the outdoors and all things Italian. She never passed up a garage sale. She was a dedicated member of St. Bernadette's Parish for over 40 years where she was an active and steadfast volunteer. She helped in the office, ushering, and knitting items for the Christmas Boutique. She volunteered with the San Joaquin County STARS Program for 10 years, with the Delta Blood Bank, and helped whenever there was a need. She passed on the value of helping others to her children and grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29th from 3 pm - 6 pm and Rosary at 6 pm at DeYoung Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernadette's Church on December 30th at 10 am. A Committal Service will follow at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery. The family would like thank the staff at Alma Via of San Rafeal Independent Living for their wonderful care, especially all of Mary's favorites. Donations can be made to your local Humane Society as Mary loved dogs of all kinds.
