Patricia Marie Fleischman was born on September 23, 1940, to Marie and George Fleischman. Raised in San Francisco, California, she developed a lifelong affection for her hometown and especially for the San Francisco Giants.
After graduating from nursing school—where she met her lifelong friend by whom she is survived, Catherine Spalinger—Patricia boldly pursued further education at a time of great social change. Defying expectations for women of her generation, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco during one of the first few years the institution embraced full coeducation. Her commitment to advancing both her own opportunities and the broader role of women in higher education reflected the progressive values she carried throughout her life.
In 1965, she moved to Stockton, California, where she began her nursing career. With intelligence, compassion, and an indomitable spirit, Patricia dedicated her life to caring for others, building a successful career marked by service and kindness.
Beyond her professional life, Patricia found joy in sewing, cooking, and gardening. A member of the haute couture club, she explored many forms of sewing, from clothing and upholstery to quilting. Her culinary talents were legendary among family and friends, who fondly recall her “most triumphant” meals. Independent, smart, kind, and fun, Patricia was a cherished role model to Catherine’s children—Lawrence, Elizabeth, Susan, and Margaret—whose lives, and many others, continue to be touched by her legacy.
In 2014, Patricia moved to O’Connor Woods, where she formed new friendships. A devoted Catholic, she treasured her time at St. Catherine’s Chapel, where her faith and community brought her great joy.
Patricia passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. She will be remembered for her resolve, sense of humor, creativity and generous heart.
