Pearl was born in KwongTung, China on March 31, 1932 and met her late husband Doon Min Wong in college in Hong Kong. She is survived by her 5 children: Kingman Wong, Jenny Yee (Willie), Diane Wong-Feulner, Shirley Chapin (Jeff), Tom Wong (Katie), 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Klodnicki (Eric), Michelle Lederer (Robert), Lisa Larson (Jonathan), Claudia Tapia (Horacio), Christopher and Amy Feulner, Joseph and Miranda Andaya, Tiffany and Brandon Wong, as well as 5 great grandchildren.
Pearl lived in KwongTung, China until 1949 then moved to Hong Kong to study accounting. There she met her husband and they married in 1952. She was an elementary school teacher for 2 years, and as a hobby, studied seamstressing while caring for her 4 children. She made beautiful clothes for her children for special occasions. In 1964, she and her family moved to the United States by a cruise ship and settled in Stockton, California. She had her 5th child Tom in 1965. In 1970, she began working at local canneries and then Cal Cedar. After 26 years, Pearl retired.
She enjoyed traveling with her family to destinations like China, Europe, Hawaii, New York, Arizona, Las Vegas, and throughout California. She also loved playing mahjong and penny slot machines with her close friends.
She and her late husband were active members of the Wong Family Benevolent Association. There she found herself surrounded by a tight knit community and made lifelong friends. They also maintained an active lifestyle by going on daily walks together and participated in group exercises with their many friends at the Sherwood Mall. Pearl always reminded her children to love and support each other and to always stay in touch with relatives and friends. Her family and friends meant everything to her.
Pearl was an exceptional cook, known for preparing a moist Thanksgiving turkey with perfectly cooked legs and delicious fish dishes that her grandchildren loved.
Pearl lived her last 16 months in an assisted living facility (Garden Oaks in Stockton) where she enjoyed group exercises, playing bingo and blackjack, doing arts and crafts, and participating in many other special events. She also loved getting to know the staff and the new friends she made. She really loved everything about her new home, except for the food. She enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and filet mignon at the facility, but she cherished Chinese dishes, especially dim sum, brought to her by her family. The family thanks the staff at Garden Oaks at O’Connor Woods for their care and dedication to Pearl over her last 16 months.
While the family will miss her every day, they take comfort in the fact that she is now at peace with the Lord, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her and will flourish in her eternal life. And though they mourn her passing, they also celebrate the life she lived—one filled with love, faith, and an unwavering commitment to family.
A message from the family to their loving mom - “Thank you, Mom, for everything you gave to us. You were the heart of our family, and that love will live on in each of us. May you rest now, knowing that your legacy lives on in the lives of your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all those whose lives you touched. We will always love you, and we will never forget the lessons you taught us. Rest in peace, dear mother. You are forever in our hearts.”
