Reid Wirth Roberts, known affectionately as “Jocko,” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Stockton, California, surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.
Born on October 9, 1947, in Stockton, Reid was the youngest child of Virginia Wirth and William F. Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William F. Roberts, Jr.
Reid grew up in Stockton and graduated from Stagg High School in 1965. He went on to study economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and earned his law degree from Hastings College of the Law, following in the footsteps of his father. After graduation, Reid returned home to Stockton, where he joined his father in practicing law. He served the community with integrity and kindness from 1974 until his death.
Reid was a member of the San Joaquin County Bar Association, the Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Alliance, and the Advisory Water Commission of San Joaquin County during his career. In addition to his private practice, Reid was proud to serve as counsel for the Central San Joaquin Water Conservation District for more than 40 years, providing wise guidance and steadfast leadership to the region’s agricultural community. He also served on the board of directors for the Children’s Home of Stockton for ten years and contributed countless hours as a board member and volunteer for Tiger Aquatics, where his daughters swam competitively for many years.
Outside of his legal career, Reid devoted much of his life to his family ranch, a place he cherished deeply. From a young age, he worked alongside his father, caring for cattle and tending to walnut orchards. His love of and commitment to the land was a lifelong passion, second perhaps only to his love of travel.
A consummate bon vivant, Reid got his first taste of adventure in 1964 when he spent a summer exploring Europe on a tour led by high school history teacher, Charlie Schiffman. The experience was pivotal for Reid, and he frequently recounted stories and lessons of that journey throughout his life. After completing the bar exam, he spent a year backpacking across Europe. This adventure was again life-changing, as it was during his time abroad that he met his future wife, Donna Quattrocchi, in Madrid.
In September 1974 Reid and Donna married in her hometown of Amsterdam, New York, before settling in Stockton. In 1977, they welcomed their first child, Lyssa, and in 1981, their family of four was completed with the arrival of a second daughter, Emily. Reid was the original “girl dad,” rarely missing a soccer game or swim meet and traveling across the state and country to support his daughters as they competed in sports and academic events. His actions taught his children the value of hard work, while his unwavering support instilled in them confidence and ambition.
Reid’s wanderlust, like his laughter, was contagious. He and Donna continued to enjoy travel, both in the United States and abroad, throughout their marriage. They shared many adventures together as well as with their friends, children, and grandchildren. Both of his girls inherited his knack for travel planning and the desire to experience faraway places, exotic foods, and foreign cultures.
Reid is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Donna; his loving daughters, Lyssa Roberts (Derek Doukakis) and Emily Brown (Christopher); his sister, Jean Roberts-Tomek (Frank); his sister-in-law Billie Roberts; his sister-in-law Mary Ann Tomlinson (Guy); and his cherished grandchildren, Campbell, Reid, and William Brown, and Charlotte Doukakis. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy lives on through them.
Reid will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering integrity, and quiet strength. Those who knew him will forever cherish memories of his warmth, wisdom, and sense of humor.
The Roberts family extends deep and heartfelt gratitude to the kind souls who cared for Reid with compassion and grace in his final months, Erica, Teresa, Yolanda, Juanita, Gloria and the team at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 11-2 at Waterloo Gun and Bocce Club, 4343 N. Ashley Lane. Please RSVP to Emily Brown ([email protected]) by Feb. 15, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Reid’s memory to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or a local charity of your choice.
