Robert Nelson Lund

Robert Nelson Lund, age 88, passed peacefully to his eternal reward on January 8, 2025, at his home in Stockton, CA. Born June 12, 1936 in Stockton to parents Nelson Lund and Adeline Lund Hansen, he was raised by his grandmother Rose Seliner McCombs, on a ranch in Linden. After graduation from Linden High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard. On July 3, 1958, he married Dolores Lucy Ratto, the love of his life. He found his professional calling as a police officer in the Stockton Police Department, in which he served honorably for more than 23 years. He attended night school to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Sacramento State. He retired as a Lieutenant in charge of Robbery and Homicide. After retirement from the police force, he found his second calling as an Alcohol and Drug Recovery Counselor at San Joaquin General Hospital, including serving as the Director of the Outpatient Treatment Center. Upon his second retirement, he served as the Public Conservator for disabled adults in San Joaquin County. He concluded his public service at age 76. After his third retirement, he gave more of his time to his family, children and grandchildren, blessing them with his presence and humor at many, many family events. He counseled and served many people in San Joaquin County, touching them with his respect, love and joy.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, his parents, Nelson and Adeline, and his siblings, Mona, Emmitt, Loren, Betty, George Jr., and Edward.

He is survived by his sons, Randy of Stockton, and Eric (Maria) of Durham, NC, his six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a fourth great-grandchild on the way, and numerous loving nephews, nieces and in-laws.

Public viewing to be held at DeYoung’s Memorial Chapel, 601 N California St, Stockton, from 2:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 with a Holy Rosary at 5:00pm.

Funeral Mass to be held at the Cathedral of the Annunciation, 400 W Rose St, Stockton, at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 23, 2025, with burial in San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery immediately following.

A reception to celebrate Robert’s life will be at the Social Hall at St. Luke Catholic Church, 3847 N Sutter St, Stockton from 12:30 - 2:30 pm on January 23, 2025.
