Richard D Canaday Jr.

Richard “D” Canaday, Jr, age 86 of Stone Mountain, GA, went home to be with the Lord on February 24, 2011. He is survived by Wife, Martha Smoke Canaday; Sons, Rick and Bonnie Canaday of Nicholson, L. David Canaday of Lilburn, Frank and Karen Canaday of Buford; Daughters, Shirley M. Canaday of Greenville, SC, Patricia and Bill Wood of Snellville; Sister, Mozelle Mitchell of Stockbridge; 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

Mr. Canaday was a U.S. Marine veteran having served in the Pacific Theater, including the Battle of Okinawa during WWII with the 6th Marine Division and Marine Detachment aboard the Battleship USS New Jersey. He retired from Plantation Pipeline Company and was an active member of Killian Hill Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26, at 2:30 PM at Killian Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael N. Riley officiating. The body will lie in state at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Killian Hill Baptist Church or Christian School in memory of Richard ”D” Canaday, Jr.
