He is survived by Dorothy (Ament), his beloved wife of almost 65 years and his loving children Trudi Ekvall (Allan McGirr) of Vancouver, Debra Houston (Stuart) of Spruce Grove, Terri Fulks (Don) of Drayton Valley and Todd (Jeanny) of Vegreville. Grandpa Con will be greatly missed by his 9 grandchildren, Emily and Adam McGirr, Cam, Kyle and Kendra Houston, Dylan and Devin Fulks and Erika and Brody Ekvall and also by his three great grandchildren, Blake and Avery Houston and Jessie Fulks. Also survived by his sister Eva (Ekvall) Mott.
Con was predeceased by his parents Anton and Elsie Ekvall, his older brother Herb Ekvall and younger sister Esther (Ekvall) Hammond.
He was born in the small railroad town of Fusilier, Saskatchewan where he spent his early years and then moved with his parents to Alix, Alberta in 1940. In 1946 Con left the prairies to join the Navy and served on HMCS Magnificent as radio officer for five years. After seeing the world, he returned to Calgary where he met and married Dorothy in 1951. Always technically resourceful and handy with tools, Con spent years with General Electric which took him and his family across Canada to Greenwood, NS, and then Ottawa, Toronto and finally Bramalea, ON.
In 1974, Con and the family returned to his beloved Prairies to settle on an acreage in Parkland County while he worked at Telematic Controls until retirement. He and Dorothy then moved to their condo in Stony Plain.
His grandchildren all have fun memories of rides on horses, motorcycles, boats and atvs plus an annual Easter egg hunt. Con was an avid gardener, fisherman and loved to cook. He was famous for his waffles and homemade soup. He also loved to travel on long road trips through Canada and the western U.S. with Dorothy and her twin sister Doreen (Ament).
Safe travels Dad. Even though you now travel alone, our hearts are always with you.
