On June 5, 2025, at the age of 81, George Abraham Tilroe, after a lengthy illness, was granted the peace of eternity. After living in the County of Parkland for over 40 years, it was fitting for him to spend his last days at the Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain, AB.
George was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands during the challenging day of WWII. In 1957, at the age of 13, he accompanied his family to Canada to begin a new life. He attended Highschool in Jasper Place, where he met Shirley, his wife of almost 60 years. He graduated from NAIT in 1965 with a diploma in Electronics Engineering. Always eager to learn, he eventually extended his education to Instrumentation and Electricity, and began a long career in the Power Industry.
George was very service minded, spending many years with the Scouting Movement and various ministries in the church, including sound technician, Sunday School teacher and coffee maker.
George is survived by his wife Shirley and their four beautiful children: Kevin (Evelyn), Corey (Tara), Vincent and Dawn (Gord). Also still surviving are five grandchildren: Joshua (Melesa), David, Katriana, Rachel (Roy) and Sarah. Recently joining the Tilroe clan are two great-grandchildren.
George was predeceased by his father D. Abraham and mother Elisabeth. He is survived by brothers, Bram and Paul and sisters, Maria (Bill) and Margriet (Garry); as well as by nieces, nephews and many cousins, both in Canada and abroad.
After cremation, George will be laid to rest at the Glory Hills Cemetery in Parkland County. A Memorial Service for George will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Spruce Grove Alliance Church. We thank Parkland Funeral Services for all of their assistance during this time of bereavement.
