John Henry Stoik of Spruce Grove, Alberta passed away on December 31, 2017. John was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on May 31, 1944 to parents John Lentis Stoik and Margaret (nee Marshall) Stoik. Growing up he spent time in North Battlefield, Humboldt, Moose Jaw, Montreal and Toronto. He always considered Moose Jaw his home town. John was predeceased by his parents and brother Gary.
John spent his career in finance and accounting, in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Lloydminster, Vancouver, Fort McMurray and Edmonton. As a founding partner of Morgex Insurance, John was well known for his integrity, honesty and loyalty. He retired in 1999.
In 1984, retired for the first time, John fell in love with trapshooting, a sport he enjoyed for 30 years, traveling western Canada and the northern states, making many friends along the way. He volunteered his time as secretary/treasurer and past president of the Edmonton Gun Club for 25 years and was tireless in his dedication to its operation. John also served as secretary/treasurer of the APTA.
In October 2017, John was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. He met this challenge as he did many others in his life, with quiet dignity and strength. His concern was not for himself but for his family and that was typical of “the big guy”.
John passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Gisele, his son Casey, his “other” son Randal, and his grandson Trayce. John is also survived by his daughter Cara, sons Gary, Sean and Ian, and their families, sister-in-law Marsha (Dave) and cousin Barb (Ken), as well as many, many friends.
Until we meet again “keep your sights high and your powder dry”.
Per john’s request, there will be no service. A private Memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital, YESS, or a Charity of your choice.
And now the end is near
So I face the final curtain
My friend, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I’ve traveled each and every byway
Oh, and more, much more than this, I did it my way
Regrets: I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful stop along the byway
Oh, and more, much more than this, I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my falls, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, no, not me, I did it my way
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the words he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way
