It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kent Michael Halvorson on October 16, 2023, at the age of 59 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Kent was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan, and was raised on a farm in Abbey, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Abbey from elementary through high school, later pursuing post-secondary studies in Moose Jaw and Lethbridge. On October 27, 1990, Kent married his sweetheart Laurie Skalicky, and together they built a beautiful life and family, raising two daughters Randa and Shelby.
His love for nature and the outdoors led him to a career as a Park Warden at Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba. Kent, Laurie and the girls later moved to Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, where he worked for eight years as a Resource Management Officer with the department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Eventually they settled in Okotoks, Alberta where Kent pursued a successful career as an oilfield and environmental consultant. In January 2002, the family moved to Stony Plain, Alberta, where they continued to make memories together.
An avid outdoorsman, Kent found great joy in hunting, fishing and camping. He loved sports, played hockey throughout his life and was a devoted Oilers fan, rarely missing a game and savoring every opportunity to attend in person.
More than anything, Kent loved his family. He took great pride in teaching his daughters how to fish and hunt, creating lasting memories through many camping trips and family vacations. One of his most cherished adventures was a family trip to Disneyland with Laurie and the girls where he said, “It’s the happiest place on earth,” and “It really does make you feel like a kid again.”
Kent will be deeply missed by his loving wife Laurie, daughters Randa and Shelby and his precious granddaughter Emma. He is also survived by his brothers Craig (Joani) Halvorson and Darren (Cindy) Halvorson, father-in-law Roger Skalicky, brother-in-law Vince (Martina) Skalicky, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a wide circle of treasured friends.
Kent was predeceased by his parents Lavern and Sheila Halvorson, his grandparents and his mother-in-law Shirley Skalicky,
Kent’s legacy lives on in the countless memories shared with those who loved him. His laughter, kindness, strength and deep love for his family and the outdoors will remain in our hearts forever.
A Celebration of Life for Kent will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Heritage Park in the Parkland Hall, 5100 41 Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta T7Z 0B4.
